Hi Craig,
From what I can see, I thing that there is nothing wrong with what you
do for updating iSphere.
I never saw that "and updates are not permitted" error before and I do
not know what it should tell us.
Could you try to run RDi with administrator privileges?
Regards,
Thomas.

Hi Thomas,box.
Thanks for your reply.
I'm not sure if I'm doing something incorrectly, but I downloaded the zip
file from SourceForge as you suggested and added the archive as a local
update site.
I then tried to do the install as before e.g via Help | Install New
Software.
You can see the screen here:
http://www.greywidget.co.uk/rdi/rdi_001.gif
It appeared to have the same conflict - it started doing the compute
alternate solutions thing.
At that point I cancelled it by clicking the red square on the dialogue
Once I did that I got a screen that informed me:it

I don't want to confuse the main issue with the messages above, I was
curious about them as they sound like I would need to remove iSphere andupdate
reinstall as they say "updates are not permitted" but maybe it's not
relevant.
I'm not wishing to waste any more of your time with this except can you
confirm from the screen shot above that I'm doing what you expect?
I don't understand from that screen why it would be trying to do an
of anything except iSphere.related to
thanks and best regards,

Craig,
iSphere does not have a dependency to any plug-ins with an ID starting
with "com.ibm.debug.*". Hence I do not think that the problem is
localiSphere. I assume that you will get the same error when attempting to
update or install any other plug-in. What happens when you use the IBM
Installation Manager to search for updates for RDi?
The most reliable option to install iSphere is downloading the iSphere
update site zip file from SourceForge. You can add the zip file as a
forupdate site and install/update iSphere from there.
I currently consider setting up my own update server because of the
problems with SourceForge. But I did not made a final decision.

Thomas.

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your reply. ( And for your excellent plugin )
On the backup machine, the install ( not re-install ) which eventually
worked, I initially tried http://isphere.sourceforge.
thewhich
failed with some complaint about the repository ( sorry can't remember
whenexact error ) and this looked like the error that has been documented
RDiyou have installed in the default location. But I have my shortcut for
mainset up to run under Admin, which is supposed to fix that problem but it
didn't in my case.
I remembered this post from when I originally installed iSphere on my
andmachine and saw that Dave Clark had listed
http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/isphere/eclipse/rdi8.0/ as the
address to use.
So I used that on the backup machine and it worked fine.
I installed it from RDI from the menu via Help | Install New Software
allthen pasting the Dave Clark url into the Work with box. I then selected
thecomponents except the last ( 5250 ) one.
This worked fine.
When I tried to repeat that process on my main machine, I got the error
described.
I tried again this morning to see if I can find more information about
uninstalledexact dependency.
The first two times I tried it, came back with some "couldn't find
repository" error but I just tried again and it ran as before.
So in answer to your question, I think that since I posted that specific
url into the Work with field on the Available Software screen that I've
used a specific update site?
The error detail I get is:
Will be upgraded/downgraded: NI1 Fragment
Version: 1.3.0v20160105_1939
Id: com.ibm.debug.pdt.team.common.nl1
I tried the default option for alternate solutions which was: Update my
installation to be compatible with the items being installed.
This gave me a screen that says: "NI1 Fragment" cannot be fully
3.2.3.rbecause other installed software requires it. The parts that are not
required will be uninstalled.
I've cancelled back out of it now because com.ibm.debug.pdt.team.common.
nl1
sounds like it might be something I need?
best regards,
Craig

Craig,update?
Usually there is no need for uninstalling an old version of iSphere
before updating to the latest one. But honestly I do not always
understand the various problems reported here.
"NI1 Fragment" does not tell me anything, because iSphere does not use
fragments. Hence I assume that "NI1 Fragment" is related to a different
plug-in but not iSphere.
Actually the update dialog should exactly describe the dependency that
could not be matched.
Did you explicitly select the iSphere update site or did you select
"--All available Sites--" when trying to install the latest iSphere
installed

Hi All,
I recently put a copy of RDi 9.6.0.3 onto my backup machine and
iSphere without problems once I used the url kindly provided by Dave:
http://master.dl.sourceforge.net/project/isphere/eclipse/rdi8.0/
This has successfully installed iSphere 3.4.0.r on to that machine.
I'm still running 9.6.0.1 on my main machine and it has version
versionofiSphere
iSphere on it.
When I tried adding the latest version on this machine via the Help |
Install New Software option (I hadn't removed the old version of
itfirst) I had some errors.
Early in the install process an information message comes up saying:
"Cannot Perform operation. Computing alternate solutions... "
And then it eventually gives me an "Install Remediation Page" in which
is complaining about "NI1 Fragment"
I'm not sure if this is because I didn't uninstall the previous
12:48:54ofas
iSphere first.
Or if iSphere 3.4.0.r requires RDi 9.6.0.3
Or some other reason.
Has anyone else encountered something like this?
For now I just hit cancel to leave the old version of iSphere running
I
can't really afford any downtime at the moment.
thanks kindly,
Craig
