I took part in the beta test and evaluated 9.8 from day one for my company.

I understand that many have problems - but the “unpack the ZIP and start” concept is so much easier for a developer, where he/she can have different versions installed and doesn’t need elevated rights to install, update or uninstall a new version. And it’s even much faster than IM ever was.

The problems with snippets (or the lack
of them in the default installation) and some other small things are holding us back right now - so we are waiting for the first service release to make the jump - but we are embracing the new distribution/installation concept.

An IM version of 9.8 is announced - I think it will come as 9.8.1 or 9.8.0.1 but not earlier - but the ZIP format seems to be the primary form of distribution - as it matches the distribution concept of Eclipse, which always was just a ZIP file.

Daniel

Most of my customers (in addition to me) complain about IBMs billing (or
sometimes lack thereof....) and cite: "IBM is just plain hard to do
business with". As a partner I have to intercede quite often to get things
right.
Then you add PassPort (dis)Advantage and you get a whopper of time getting
anything right, hence much of the frustration with RDi.

Microsoft and AWS are expensive by comparison, but they take your money way
more easily.......
