We WILL continue to enhance IBM Rational Developer for the i. We understand it's a very important tool.

I see your request as a hyperlink from Jira (or other tooling), or Windows File associations (for local files). The command on the server side is trickier in today's security environment. It likely would require users to run STRRSESRV command, which many IT shops disable.

The idea currently has 2 votes. Windows File Association launches would be valuable for GIT command line clients.

But the idea idles on "Future Consideration" since July 2021 - so I don't have much hope, that it will come anytime soon.

In my opinion IBM has shifted all new development to VSCode / Code for i - and I don't know how many new features will come to RDi in the future. Sure IBM will update the syntax checker to support new RPG %BIFs or statements - but I don't think it will be much more.

We are definitely thinking about switching to VSCode in the next 1 or 2 years. Right now we are only waiting for our change management system to get it's own VSCode plugin.

but I don't think that works well when eclipse is being used as an
IDE, as it has a workspace associated with it.

Even if it were possible, launching eclipse and all it's plugin's is
going to take quite a while just to edit a file.
