I don't know if it would help or not, as the server has to check for the file anyway.  IMO, it would actually make things a little worse as the machine would take just that much longer to display the file.

I'm just wading thru my errorlogs and see quite a number of CodeRed attacks.

Question: Isn't it better to create a little dummy default.ida? This little file could be easily chached and the server wouldn't had to check (even multi :-) whether the file exists or not. That could help not decreasing the performance of the server.
