Michael,

Java will have it's time, with or without Websphere.  But
right now, I don't feel it's ready to handle "everything".
Joe's ideas about mixing RPG and Java are great, but I also
think it's overkill for web apps.  (don't shoot, it's my
opinion, ok?)  It also takes away from the "portability" of
Java.  I know Joe preaches his methods and doesn't like SQL
for data access in Java, but I've found SQL to be very nice
for data access, and very portable.

Like i've said before, we started out hearing "use
Java/Net.Data".  Now we're hearing "Use Java/Net.Data for
the front end, and RPG for the data access."  I say, just
use RPG for everything already.  

Then again, 2002 is coming, so a new language should be
coming anytime to take over for Java.  :)
