AFAIK, neither the Apache server nor the base IBM HTTP server support
servlets.  A web application server, either Tomcat or WebSphere, is required
to run servlets and JavaServer Pages.  I don't know which directives you're
talking about, but they may simply be the ties to the web application
server.
