In many cases though., sadly the iSeries will be long gone from the shop
before they fail.  In fact they may not fail in absolute terms - what they
will fail to do is deliver cost-effective value to their shareholders and
customers.  I have visited a number of iSeries shops recently where they are
running NT based server farms to do basic web stuff that the iSeries that
they already own could do with its eyes shut.  Every problem is met with
"throw another few servers in" - the boxes are cheap and they don't notice
how their staff overhead grows.  It is just regarded as normal.  I've seen
one case where a staff of about 7 manages the server farms etc. and between
them performs about the same work as another iSeries customer does with one
person!

The problem is one of perception - not reality.
