do you have an index page ? If you specify a specific page that you know is
in the directory do you get this error ?

It sounds like (yeah, that's a terrible way to diagnose problems I know)
that the system can't find a default home page (can't remember how this is
specified) and is therefore trying to present a directory listing. If I
remember rightly you permit this by creating a file with a certain name or
extension in the directory you want to allow browsing on (its a while since
I did this)
