Anyone got a feel on using multiple application servers v. multiple
applications within a server?

Currently, we've got 4 servers running, each with a single application. I'm
thinking about using two servers (or even
one), each with two applications.

Ditto on HTTP servers. As I transition from IBM HTTP server (classic) to
Apache, I'm considering using name vitual
hosting, eliminating four HTTP servers.

Our biggest performance hit is opening the servlet the first time (or after 20
minutes). I've ordered the PTF to go
to WAS 3.5.6 which purports to improve "first time" performance through
improved JVM.

Any ideas would be helpful....

thanks

dan
