>> Is there a way to control this display of std-out?

Sorry - the answer is "No" as far as I can tell. I spent some time working
on this a while back (I think the V4R1 timeframe) but couldn't get it to
work. I eventually heard from one of the Rochester developers that changes
made in V3R7(?) meant that the CGI std out interfaces don't use the "real"
stdout anymore and hence the OVR will have no effect.

Interestingly, because COBOL (as well as C of course) programs can actually
write to stdout, you can use this approach for COBOL CGI programs - just not
RPG.

Of course if you were using CGIDEV2 this would be an academic question as
the built-in debug capability would be logging all your HTML for you anyway
