Thanks for the reply but that is not the issue.

When configuring WebSphere, you set up a server project. Under that, you set up 
a JDBC provider. Under that, you set up a Data Source. Under the Data Source, 
there are multiple Resource Properties. I think my problem is that I don't know 
how to set up the resource properties. 

Life was a lot simpler when you just coded a connection object. I don't know 
how JNDI works and can't find any good documentation.

Can anyone help?

I don't know anything about WebSphere, but i'm feeling lucky today and 
this sounds as if the database on your /400 is not in the directory of 
databases.

I guess you need here an entry for remote location = *LOCAL.
