The best way I've found is to have a hidden field that starts with the
current value of the field in question.  Also use that to set the value
of your checkbox (as you've done).  Then, write a little JavaScript
function that is called on the OnClick event of the checkbox.  The
function interrogates the state of the checkbox and set the hidden field
accordingly.
