I will argue that Java is not slow.  If you implement every thing IBM tells
you to (ie EJB's) you are going to have some darn slow pages.  I have been
doing a ton of Java development in the past year and it is VERY fast IMO.

Note that I am talking about Java running in a servlet container like
Tomcat, I am not talking about experiences most have had with trying to run
Java from within a regular iSeries job where each job gets its own JVM and
such. I would agree that Java needs to mature in that arena, but for web
programming Java is very fast.

I can see something else. Full intergration with your existing applications.

Forget about the slow Java, use PHP as the presentation lanugage to 
interface directly to your RPG programs. PHP is much faster and easier to 
program in than Java (arguably anyway).
