Thanks to all for their help - I now understand more about DNS than I ever
thought I would! (or indeed would want to <grin>)

I wonder if the MX isn't checked first because my main partner400.com DNS
entry points to 63.167.147.110 whereas my MX record points to 69.27.96.171.
Doesn't this imply that it resolves the MX first rather than the A record?
