The cool thing about Ruby is that I think it will change web programming
forever in the Java community, but not in the area of becoming a language
everyone uses, and instead because everyone see's how easy it is they will
try to emulate the ease-of-use in their next generation frameworks
(https://trails.dev.java.net/). Note: I have been to sessions on Ruby (and
RubyOnRails) but have yet to use it in production or developed anything of
use in the language - maybe someday when I have more time :-)

David

I agree with you on the mainstream languages, basically you have Java and
.NET, they are the leaders.. but PHP is gaining some ground and we cannot
overlook what Ruby is doing.

Not true about SQL being slower access than RPG. But the bigger
picture is if the platform is to compete seriously in the market place
against other DBMS platforms it is imperative those using legacy
programming languages (RPG, CL, etc.) move to using mainstream languages
(SQL for sure) and programming methodologies.

Sincerely,

Explain the easier comment for accessing DB2 ? CGIDEV uses native RPG
Database IO that in my opinion is faster and easier and gives you more
control that other methods like SQL.

I see PHP as a form of DDS-5250 replacement...
(yes, it is so much more...) I see that PHP pushes
And pulls from the DB2 database so much easier than CGIDEV.
