I suspect that the reason you are experiencing this is that Giovanni's
current auto-install for the Apache config includes the directive "Listen
1492".  This sets the server up to listen in on non-standard port number
than the normal port 80.  Because of this all the examples etc. have to run
using that port.

I have no idea why he started doing this - he never did it with the
"classic" server configuration.  I'm copying him on this note an hopefully
he can explain it.

To correct the situation simply change the "Listen" directive (I think it
works if you just remove it for that matter) - although as others have
noted, it can be useful to have a sever on a non-standard port for testing
purposes etc.
