Eric,
I agree that CGI with RPG IV is a better choice than Java for iSeries
development. I do know that mrc also generates everything (RPG IV, Java, AJAX,
JSP, CGI RPG, etc.) whatever the customer wants.
I don't want to get into a feature comparison, I know your stuff is very cool as
well and used by thousands of customers.

(i am posting this reply for Eric Figura, who asked to respond to Bob's
statements. I am not associated with BCD, only that I have a customer where
I use their software, as well as RPG).
Bob,
I don't know where you received the misinformation in your post about BCD /
WebSmart purchasing RPG ServerPages or RPGSP. I am not aware of either of
them being for sale, however, we have not purchased either company or
product.

Regarding the part of your post about the vendor you have experience with,
MRC, one specific difference is MRC generates Java while WebSmart generates
either ILE RPG-CGI or Java.

FWIW: People when given the choice of developing in CGI or Java, based on
our experience, 95% of those iSeries users have selected ILE RPG-CGI. This
is based on our experience of 1,200 iSeries sites making that choice.

Why such a big lean towards CGI? Our experience: Numerous RPG based
development shops find it easier to get their web applications to market,
they're more comfortable with ILE RPG-CGI than they are with Java, they can
preserve their existing iSeries back end system investment and they can keep
their existing staff who know their business and systems involved in the
development of their new web systems. I can go on, however, I'll stop here.

Best regards,
