Very on the i5

Not sure what you mean "the multi platform way" in this case, but most
of the access for these applications will be to DB2 on the i5. In
future, there may be a need to ALSO access our ORACLE until Intel boxes
and/or our DB2 under AIX, but that's down the road.

Websphere is favored in one part of the business and MS in the other so
it depends on who wins the emotional/political battle at the time. I'm
trying to look beyond that and bring a thoughtful standard that's hard
to argue with and will become the official standard. This unless each
tool should be used for a particular job.

The i5 will be the platform of choice for storing the business
applications and data for some time to come. If it becomes the
development platform depends on the answers here and the technical and
business case made here.

Thanks,

Dave

how important is maintain the iSeries as the main server?
this is the first question.

develop in java if you'll try the "multi plattform" way.
develop in .NET if you'll follow MS way.
if you select one of these ways yu'll abandon the iSeries plattform
more
soon or later.

if you prefer to use mainly iSeries resources then select the hard
way.

Friday night is not a very good place for thinking seriously? maybe.

Walden,

Yes, I expect it will be.

I assumed that .NET was the new "standard" for MS so understand
about
.ASP. It's just it was easier and cheaper to do our first attempts
at
a decent app in .ASP.

Wish you had the time to provide your opinion but understand.

Oh my, this will be fun...

I don't really have time to go into details, but I'll throw this out
for
now, you're looking at .NET and Websphere, forget "classic" .ASP
pages.
The non-.NET asp is dead, MS's direction is clearly .NET, so forget
about the classic .ASP.

Oh, and I can't think of a better forum for this discussion than
here.
