Seems like something that could be a performce problem if it forces
dynamic SQL and access path creation at runtime.   Better to call SP or
static SQL if you're talking a lot of data to go through.

It let's you call programs (at least when using java) without regard

where caller is running.

Calling a RPG program as a native method, when you're running on a PC,
doesn't work well.

Using SQL UDF's or stored procedures requires a lot of extra work
ahead
of time.  Using PCML is all done at runtime.
