I guess I need clarity on this. Are you doing webservices through HTTP? Is this a software package? On 8/23/06, Chris Bipes <chris.bipes@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
We have a socket client that runs on web server and talks to a socket server on the AS400. All request are passed from the web server to the AS400 under application control. These request are processed and the results are returned to the web server, which then formats the data as necessary. This socket client is an API call within the web server instance. We only have to open one port from our web server IP to our iSeries through a firewall. Of course any attempt to submit request with out proper formatting will cause the iSeries job to ignore it, if our error handling works, or crash and not give any further access to the iSeries. We feel that this is more secure than opening up OBDC or some other standard interface to our data and applications. And I know that others disagree with me so lets not start that rant again.
