I find it very easy to debug using Firebug in Firefox browser.
 
Along those lines, fiddler (www.fiddlertool.com) is a debugging proxy that 
works from either ie or firefox and lets you see (and change) the conversation 
between browser and server. Great for debugging Ajax (and "classic") web 
problems.
