We have done next to no "tuning" with Tomcat 5.x. We just unzipped it to a folder and configured it and ran it on the System i. I think RJS has a simple install for Tomcat found here http://www.rjssoftware.com/files/apache/iseriestomcat-5028.exe

Some customers of ours have Tomcat running as worker process in Apache. Most, however, use the vanilla installation we send them that runs in QSYSWRK. Started by this CL (or something similar):

SBMJOB CMD(QSH +
CMD('export as + JAVA_HOME=/QIBM/ProdData/Java400/jdk14; + /tomcat/tomcat5.0/bin/catalina.sh jpda + start')) JOB(TOMCAT5) JOBQ(QSYSNOMAX) + CPYENVVAR(*YES) ALWMLTTHD(*YES)
We haven't "tweaked" beyond that.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the info. The version we are using was an optional install i.e. it didnt come from apache.org. Can I ask do you use Tomcat with the HTTP server or do your clients connect directly to tomcat ? How is the tomcat job configured e.g. job type, priority, pools etc.

Thanks,
Robert.
