<input type="checkbox" name="box1">Box1
<input type="checkbox" name="box2">Box2
<input type="checkbox" name="box3">Box3

would be accessed as follows:

$cgi->param('box1')
$cgi->param('box2')
$cgi->param('box3')

assuming $cgi is a CGI object instantiated like this:

use CGI;
my $cgi = new CGI;

You can also capture all parameters sent to your cgi program by invoking the
param method without specifying the parameter as follows:

my @params = $cgi->param();

You can then check to make sure something was passed like this:

if ( scalar @params != 0 ) {
  #something passed in
} else {
  # Uh-oh
}
