Yeah, this I knew. But I always thought it was a step in the right direction for IBM to provide support for Tomcat, even though it was always out of date. I'd had hopes this marked the start of a larger trend of providing more open-source type products with support for free, such as PHP, and PERL and Python and others as part of the software you could get with AS/400. I guess that was naive on my part. -----Original Message----- From: web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Matt.Haas@xxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, December 01, 2006 3:03 PM To: web400@xxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [WEB400] iSeries Access for Web They did that to appease the masses after they dropped the free version of WebSphere (this isn't an issue any more). You still need a bigger box to run WebSphere with good performance but version 6 should help when using the 32 bit JVM which has a much smaller memory foot print. Also, there's no reason why you need IBM to provide you with an old (it was old when IBM delivered it), insecure version of Tomcat that has had functionality removed from it. You can download and install a newer and un-crippled version from apache.org (make sure you get the connector as well, the newer connector performs better and is required with Tomcat 5 and newer). IBM is dropping support for Tomcat on iSeries? Didn't they JUST! Give us support for this in V5R1? -----Original Message----- From: web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:web400-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Mark Allen Sent: Friday, December 01, 2006 1:51 PM To: Web Enabling the AS400 / iSeries Subject: Re: [WEB400] iSeries Access for Web yeah I saw that while doing upgrade, jsut trying to "buy" some time as they seem "h### bent" on picking a "replacement" ASAP followed by at least an 18-24 month conversion and thats IF we stick with the same SW vendor and use their "new and improved" .NET version running of course on MS and covnert from the "native" RPG app........ well, don't get too attached, according to the MTU... V5R4 is the last release supporting tomcat. You would have to download, install and run the Apache version or use WebSphere. On Fri, 2006-12-01 at 12:29 -0500, Mark Allen wrote:I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish there was 1 place on how to get this up
