I would think that CGIDEV2 would have been more flexible than this.
You need to increase the length of the data length being sent out.
I'm guessing that updhtmlvar() at some point calls the following API.

callb     'QtmhWrStout'           
parm                    WrtDta    
parm                    WrtDtaLen

I have a field in a file that's 5000 characters long...just a general 
notes field...

What happens when I attempt to write it to a web page using
updhtmlvar(), 
it truncates the field to only write out 1024 characters...hence, we're 
losing data...is there something I can do to avoid this?...

P.S. I just put this into production as my first CGI production
app...lots 
of people panicking about losing data...about to start pulling my hair 
out...
