I've run WDSc on a 512k machine before but you really need a GB of ram for
it to work decently. I also noticed a big difference in performance from
WDSc to Rational, (which is the WDSc 6.0 version with a new name). Maybe
you could get a hold of the Rational disks and put that on your laptop.

Just to be exact: nearly all of the WebSphere Studio products (such as
WebSphere Studio Site Developer) were renamed to Rational when IBM decided
to rebrand the tools. However, WDSC (the accepted abbreviation for
WebSphere Development Studio Client for iSeries) is still known as WDSC; it
was the only tool not renamed. And to be honest, until and unless the
Rational folks decide to embrace RPG, I don't want the tool to be renamed.

On the other front, WDSC 6 in general is a bit faster and more nimble than
WDSC 5.1.2, and I hope further releases follow this trend. Eclipse is
getting leaner, so there's reason to hope WDSC will follow suit.
