Mike,

We are switching from VeriSign to GeoTrust due to cost reasons. I think
I had to install a root certificate to use them but that's pretty easy
to do (you just use DCM to import it as a CA certificate). Also,
GeoTrust turns certificates around pretty quick. It usually takes about
10 minutes for us to get a certificate (handy when you need to renew one
at 4:00 AM) and VeriSign took several hours to a day just for renewals.
It should take longer to get a certificate the first time but I don't
know what that process is like with GeoTrust since I'm not involved in
purchasing them anymore.

One thing you get with VeriSign that I'm not sure other providers have
is a seal on your site that says it's protected. VeriSign also offers
some liability insurance with their certificates as well.

What I would suggest doing is giving some of these companies a call.
They are typically very eager for a sale so chances are high you'll get
directed to the option you want.

Matt

Subject: [WEB400] Question on SSL Certificates

We are shopping for SSL certificates but I have basically no experience
with
them. We have a site that allows citizens to pay their water bills.
Looking
at Verisign they have several options (
http://www.verisign.com/ssl/buy-ssl-certificates/secure-site-services/in
dex.html).
Now I could go the cheap route and get the cheapest there is, but we are
talking about a government site. I want to make sure we get what we need
and
not just the cheapest option.

Note: My boss seems against anything GoDaddy related, so that is out.
