Depending on what you mean by stable it's not really even hearsay.
mySpace did a presentation at Mix06 that reviewed the issues they've had
with "large" databases. You can see the presentation at

interesting watch. Imagine the issues you have as your website grows to
1, 5, 10 and even 15 MILLION users and becomes the most heavily
trafficed site on the internet. <G>
