The logs should be written in UTF-8 which shouldn't be a problem. I
don't know what would cause that. Are you setting the CCSID somewhere
in your config file to something else?

I was thinking the same thing. Other than the client sending garbage to the HTTP server, I can't see why you'd get garbage like this in the log. It's obviously translating part of it (the part that says '[Fri Aug 31 09:41:42 2007] [error] [client 10.39.239.9]') so I don't see why the rest would be garbage.

Unless the client is sending it that way.

Or unless the server is mis-translating the client's HTTP request, which seems unlikely? (Unless the config is really messed up!)
