Everything, like me, is fading away, as will EGL. (is DOS actually
dead?)
Net.data can make sense because it's so simple and has built-in native
language interfaces.
Even at V5R4, IBM still use Net.data for the Digital Certificate Manager
on the *ADMIN interface.
Any language can get a bad look in the wrong hands.
If you keep it simple then migration to the latest simpler language
should not be steep.
In it's simplest form Net.data can be just like CL programming (obsolete
that) or SQL queries.
Net.data is a bit like CLP, nobody crows about it, it does it's job
well, and IBM invest little in it.
By Net.data calling RPG directly, like in CLP, you sustain your
investment in RPG.
Net.data had built-in file upload and email before the likes of CGIDEV
etc reinvented the wheel.
But it ain't a program you write, it's just a script that can facilitate
rapid web development.
I've seen teams of people deployed on projects that I can do after my
evening dinner.
I can show marketing guys that putting up a web site is easier than
hours of effort that goes into all their Excel spreadsheets.

<Jon Paris said> More to the point - why would you develop new stuff in
a language that will inevitably fade away over time?
Wait are we talking about Net.Data or EGL here? <grin>
