Aaron,

As I recall from the presentation at Common (or a discussion later) , I think the new pricing "equality" applies to Power 6 systems only. So, unless you have a 570 (which I think got Power 6 first) you won't see a savings.

My 520 lease is coming up for renewal and I am going to replace it with a blade (JS21 I think). It will be nice to get plenty of RAM and Disk at "street" prices for a change.

Pete

Thanks Joe! I had no idea it was that straight forward. Or at least
the way you described it I should be able to easily test this out on
my dev box. Am I looking at this wrong or is there only a max of 10
pools that can be created? (i.e. looking at the CHGSBSD command).

Here is a semi-related question: With the new POWER hardware pricing
can I buy a stick of memory for a lot less now? I would love it if I
could get a 1GB stick of memory for $200 or something vs. the $1000 I
think I paid.

Thanks again,

This is essential for any web applicaiton, and also for anything running
a JVM - JVMs do not work and play well with i5/OS memory management.
Anyway, look at the "storage size" component of the POOLS keyword on the
CRTSBSD command. By specifying an integer value, you will assign the
much physical memory to the pool. This memory is dedicated to that
subsystem (and thus, not available to other subsystems).
