Pete,

I was aware of your experience with different technologies and that you think outside the box. I was thinking about that earlier. It would be good to here more about your journey into EGL land. I look forward to that, and especially with regards to debugging inasmuch as EGL generates Java, HTML, and JavaScript, each working together.

Not to sideline the thread but Linux works! Firefox. Web applications. Word processing. Spreadsheet. PowerPoint presentations. Music. DVD's. Connecting to the Windows workgroup and sharing drives and printers. USB devices. iSeries Access. Everything I've tried so far has exceeded my expectations.

OK. In that context, I'll cut you some slack, but thinking outside the box has never been a problem for me because I was never "trained" as a programmer (as you know). That sometimes comes back to haunt me but in most cases I frame a problem and solution and then figure out what tool I need to solve it. The tools rarely define the solution, at least for me.

The biggest concern I have for EGL, even though I am favorably impressed so far, is that given it's J2EE roots if one of the underlying component dependencies (which were generated under the covers) gets out of whack and the application fails, how easy is it to ID the miscreant and fix the problem? Troubleshooting EGL is still on the horizon for me so I'll know more about that in the future.

And, WOW!, you becoming a Linux geek!? Who woulda thunk it? :-) If we could just get the Rational Tools to run under Linux....
