We've been discussing a couple levels of validation. If a field is a numeric type, and the user enters, "abcdefg", then 999 times out of 1,000 you may want the framework to handle that.

On the other hand, after long debate, I adopted a UI standard where the message line is above the data entry form rather than on the right side of each field. Forms that contain data entry fields scroll underneath the message line. The error message is always visible no matter the number of input elements. Input elements are highlighted and automatically scroll into view. So I'm not sure I could use something like JSF validation.
