In many applications, it could be a good thing to work with your own data
'set' until you have finished your work. And, definitely that can improve
the speed of the application.

Certainly there would be some technical and application design complexity,
but that should be hidden from the user. Vulnerability could potentially be
reduced if the synchronization process were performed with the correct
security design, etc. Lotus Notes has always had sychronization down, so it
is proven.

That's a good point. I mentioned previously that Ext js UI widgets bind to
locally stored data collections. And in one case I tested a Grid that allowed
users to change the content of cells, kind of like a spreadsheet. Rows were
changed in the local data store, initially. But you had to click the Submit
button to synchronize the local data store with the server. That can add
complexity and vulnerability to the synchronization process.
