Thanks, Syd. That seemed to be what caused the problem in IE. I coded a temporary workaround in the JSON template, to append a blank record.

It's not my intent to make Ext js look bad, or any other rich UI framework, either. I'm just doing some R&D here, and sharing the results as I go.
