I have an open in IE tab extension for FF, even the IBM sites that
normally wouldn't open if FF (or hang if they did) work fine in an IE
tab

That's because IE tab _is_ IE. IE tab simply embeds the activex IE
browser object in the FF frame. It's a great plugin, but if you're using
it, you _are_ running IE.
