I have had conversations with Don Denoncourt in the past couple weeks and he
has done a variety of java frameworks including JSF, and he has now chosen
Groovy/Grails as his direction (Java based more or less) because of it's
productivity gains. That would probably be my next stop personally.
There was a steep incline on the learning curve with JSF, but the view from the top is fantastic :)

I agree it is not a beginners framework, but I have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that the fact that there is a Sun specification is impediment to the "long term maintenance" side of it. In other words, the chance that it will exist and people know about it is much bigger.

I'd love to see an article by either you or Don, to make me change my mind.
