Nathan, what about ... lack of support [for Net.Data]?
Good question for IBM.  My gut feel is that they'll continue to support it for a long time, but not really invest in it.  That may be fine.  It's a mature product.
The thing that impresses me the most about Net.Data is the great support for multiple language environments (REXX, SQL, Direct Call, System, & Java).  While there's a powerful scripting language built-in, you don't have to rely on it for DB I/O or business logic.  You can use one of the other language environments, if you want to, or even write your own language environment as a plug-in (Net.Data provides the interface).
So you may come up with your own architecture where Net.Data is doing little more than serving the presentation layer, and offering an interface with other language environments; offloading DB I/O and other workloads to one or more of the other environments.
Nathan.
