I guess I don't buy it. How much support is there for REXX? How much new functionality is there? But you use it - and IBM keeps it on the i. All the arguments against Net.Data could be used against REXX, seems to me - not many use it, it's not getting new stuff, etc.

I have only IBM's statement in the comparison with WAS - and it IS in the CON column - it's visibility is low - yet they say it is not going away anytime soon.

I'm not sure those who predict its demise, have looked at it much - except maybe Scott, who looks at everything thoroughly - heh. And others have other things they are interested in, so have not had reason to look in this direction. Even so, who at IBM has told anyone that this technology is going away? It IS cross-platform within IBM, as is REXX.

So I think it is a viable alternative - you did say that one example looked like it could be converted fairly easily - it IS just standard HTML plus ND stuff, so much of it is probably portable.

Anyhow, Dave, you could also use REXX with Net.Data - that technology can use
REXX procedures - actually embedded REXX code, if I remember - to get at the
DB2/400 data. This is basically a kind of CGI technique.

You know I'm just trying to entice you with what you know - but it really does
work well, albeit not as well known these days.

for creating web pages that access DB2/400 for SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE and
DELETE operations? I'm talking about basic web development from scratch,
not calling RPG, nor screen scraping existing Display Files; fresh web
development. The beginning web pages will be simple, no fancy presentation
for awhile. I'd like to store the web objects on the i but that may no
longer be the best place.

I'd like to use what is in our current IBM i or MickySoft environment, not
buy some new development tool, if at all possible. I'm used to working in
HTML, ASP, javascript and the like. I wouldn't mind Using WebSphere, as we
have it, but fear the learning curve might be too long. Opinions please.
