Yeah, the support thing is a bit troublesome - although the position of IBM is, it won't be pulled anytime soon. At least on i. Of course, we don't hear about these things until it happens.

I do think a page in Net.Data is pretty easily converted to other technologies, although I've not done it myself. I have written some Net.Data in an earlier life, and it is really just HTML with data retrieval bits interspersed. Tables are especially simple, as I recall.

As for the Nimitz, we have talked about it, might try. We're thinking of Pedernales Falls today, some night life in Austin tonight, maybe tour the city tomorrow. And I'm finally learning to pronounce Perd'nales the Texas way!

Oh, and had a great time visiting another Midrange-L person on Thursday - Texas BBQ in the cafeteria - awesome!

Which is why it looks attractive to me unless IBM is going to pull the plug on
support, etc. I've looked at the books from IBM and may give it a go; the REXX
part helps.

Go to the Nimitz museum while your in the hill country if you haven't already.
A friend of mine used to be the director there and did some wonderful work
expanding it. Also, go to Lukenback to say you've been there if you like.
Spend many a weekend night there when I was stationed at Ft. Hood.

Also, since v4r4 you can call Java procedures from Net.Data on i/i5/iSeries.

It is also cross-platform in the DB2 world - certainly is used on the LUW
versions of DB2, probably on mainframe version.

And it's very easy to use. I seem to remember getting a prototype app up in less
than a day, after doing some reading.

It might fit what you're doing - a small app, then move it on. Because you do
have to write up some HTML for it, hence, you can always take that part to any
other technology pretty easily, I think.
