There is a .Net provider for iSeries - it does install from Selective Setup of iSeries Access. I'd thought it could once upon a time be installed by itself - not sure now. You do need the MS .Net runtime, just as you need the JVM for Java.

The simple fact is that this is a facoff of two popular "i"
modernization technologies: Java and .Net.

I am currently doing some "client that must run on every users computer"
stuff in Java, where it has been very easy to include the OpenSource
version of the java toolbox instead of having to rely on an installation
of Client Access on each and every computer.

Is there a similar feature for .NET or must each user have installed
something before a client can connect to our i?
