There are many ways to create a file in the root file system. Here are the
ones I can think of without creating a program to do it or thinking too
hard:
* EDTF command
* From a file share
* Uploaded via FTP
* Using touch within QShell
* Operations/iSeries/Whateveritscallednow Navigator

Rob
I think that whilst I could use WRKLNK, to delete the file, I am not sure
how I would create it again.
However, I have worked out how to bypass www and use my own folder and
welcome page and it works!!!
I still have some way to go but this is real progress. Thank you all for
all your help,
Rob

Rob,then
This sounds like file system permissions errors. Setting the folder
permissions before you create files is the easiest way to manage this. To
make life easier on yourself, fix the permissions on /www/erros07/htdocs
(you can use WRKLNK to do this, option 9 lets you set permissions) and
delete the existing file. When you recreate it, it will have the correctOn
permissions.
One other place to look is at the share itself. Make sure that it isn't
defined as read only.

Matt,
Many thanks. I have at last managed to create and serve index.html from
htdocs, using http://192.168.0.7. I am not quite sure that I know how.
way I proved that it was coming from there rather than from docs was byvery
editing it, but I could only edit it using wrklnk on a green screen -
unfriendly. If I try to edit it by opening www as a network drive,I
navigating to the index file, and using wordpad, when I tried to save the
changes, I get the message that I cannot create the
"Y:\erros\htdocs\index.html file". But I don't want to create it - it is
already there.
If I try to copy an existing file into htdocs in the network drive, I get
"Cannot copy file: Access is denied. Make sure that the disk is not full
or
write-protected and that the file is not currently in use."
I cannot rename the docs folder when viewed through a network drive, but
can do it using Navigator.the
I have copied many other files into other folders through network drives
without problem.
I have tried several user profiles that appear to have the correct
permissions
Has anyone any ides about this problem?

Rob,
Have you looked at your error log yet? That should tell you why you are
getting a 403 error. That error can be caused by three things. First,
isserver doesn't have permissions in the file system. Second, the server
thenot configured to allow access to it. Third, you don't have a file that
matches the name defined on DirectoryIndex and you are not specifying
youfile name and directory browsing is disabled. The error log will tell
createdwhich one is causing the 403 error.
From what I can piece together from this thread so far, you have
ato
folder called /www/erros07/docs, verified file system permissions wereokay,
and placed an index.html in it.
Based on that, you need to change DocumentRoot /www/erros07/htdocs to
DocumentRoot /www/erros07/docs . I'm pretty sure this will solve your
problem.
If you are not going to use /www/erros07/htdocs, you should remove the
Directory container for it. If you are going to use it, you will need
authenticationcreate an Alias for it since it is outside of the directory defined in
DocumentRoot.
As far as learning goes, the IBM documentation stinks. It is reference
material only. Starting from http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/ will be
much better. Until you get into SSL and some of the basic
Centrestuff which are different, anything you find on configuring Apache 2.0will
apply directly.On

Robert,
Many thanks
There is an htdocs directory which was created automatically when I set
Apache admin, and then following the directions on the Information
Iin
created the directory docs. Both are referenced in the configurationcode
that I included. Apache put an index file in docs but there isn't one
Ihtdocs.
I assumed that if I followed the instructions in the information centre
5would get something that worked on which I could build but that hasn't
happened. Can anyone see any errors in the configuration generated by
Apache? I am sorry that it is not very legible - I just did a cut and
paste.

Okay, there should be an htdocs directory, not docs.

Thank you all.

I simply followed the instructions in iSeriesIBM HTTP Server Version

"docs" to the server that I had created "erros07". I didn't manuallyedit
the configuration file. I hoped that this would give me something

Subject: [WEB400] HTTP Apache V5R3 problem
I have scratch installed V5R3. I am trying to set up Apache which I
used before. As far as I can tell, Admin is OK, and now, following
instructions, I have created my own test directory. This is
www/erros07/docs and there is an index.html file in there. But if

to
accesscannot
http://192.168.0.7:2001/docs
I get error 403 - "The website declined to show this webpage".
This means that the page is there but the authority is wrong, but I
see how. Everything seems to have QTMHHTTP authority.
If I try http://192.168.0.7/docs
I get error 404 - not found which is what I would expect at this
This is probably something very basic due to my ignorance of Apache
I

use the original P server on my V5R1 nachines
Can anyone help please?
