I see about the same numbers in many of my own projects, so scary or not, at least you're in good company ;-)
I used to spend a lot of time on the UI because I didn't really know HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or the DOM. But I don't have that excuse any more. Now it's because I'm making the UI more interactive and responsive to keyboard and mouse events, and providing a richer interface.
The scary thing is that UI frameworks were intended to reduce the time that one spends on the UI. Unfortunately it hasn't turned out that way, so far. Actually that's not as scary as a technology that transfers the model and controller to the desktop too.
