Something to consider: the code above shows tightly bound UI and business logic. Personally, I'd prefer logic wherein the business logic simply returns an array of data structures. A middle layer would then transport that information to the UI. That way, your business logic is UI independent, and you can use the same business logic to either generate HTML or send a formatted string (e.g., JSON) to a rich client or send a SOAP message to an external consumer.

That way, you write the code once and reuse it.
