One thing to note here is that there is no 1-to-1 comparison between
5250 and RIA.
As I get more involved with the Rich UI architecture of EGL, it becomes
increasingly clear that trying to extend the 5250 paradigm is not going
to work in the rich world. The best you can do is to encapsulate the
entire legacy application in a service and provide a scripted access to
the program, with the intent to extract that business logic into a true
server as resources permit.
The primary reason that the 5250 world simply doesn't work is because
there is a disconnect between encapsulated widgets and 5250 screens.
Even when converting a "5250-like" screen to its rich equivalent you'll
find that the 5250 screen is really a mashup of multiple components.
Those components simply don't match nicely to the page-at-a-time aspect.
Instead, you need an event handling mechanism. The latest release of
EGL has this in Infobus, and I just wrote an article on it:
