Of course, this is all secondary to the WTF associated with
a 44MB flash file in the first place. :-)
WTF - Worse Than Failure?
When I was looking at Flex / Flash a few months ago I came across a forum question from a guy who asked how to reduce the size of his SWF file, which had grown to 40 meg.
So I looked into a technique in the Flex / Flash documentation to divide applications into smaller components, and load them incrementally. You might still have a big application, but at least it could be loaded incrementally - to reduce the irritation.
Of course, incremental downloads might not help in this case. It sounds like the SWF file is an entry point into a Web site. Which begs the question, is Flash the right entry-point?
Flash files are big under any circumstance. They take a lot of time to download, and a lot of time to initialize, even if the Flash player is already running.
