After finding all the documentation on how to do it and making sure I had the PFTs applied for V5R4 to use it, it took all of 20 minutes to write my first RPG app that is exposed as a web service using the recently added web service server. The app does not do much, adds two numbers or subtracts two numbers depending on the input parameter but it worked. The web service wizard created a new Apache instance and an associated application server and converted the pcml data into a wsdl file. I then used MS InfoPath to test the web service.
All of this has now created a few more questions.
Can a web service return a result set in the same way a stored procedure can?
Are there any additional security issues I now need to think about like how to protect my web services from only being used by the people I want to allow to use them, most of whom will be using PC based products to request data.
