It is quite normal to use http 1.1 connections, where a single request can be used
to get multiple items from the same server without having to redo the whole TCP/
IP socket connection voodoo.

These are not persistant, just easier on the net.

Absolutely. I think he was referring to sockets held open for extended periods of time w/pending responses from the server. Could be wrong of course.
