Problem solved. The MYSQL bit _MUST_ to be installed by the QSECOFR
profile, and with the session CCSID code set to 37. (I also set the system
to 37 which it should have been anyway!) I don't think the person
installing had either condition correct. Now starting the Zend Core
subsystem also starts the MySQL subsystem with the MySQL Daemon running.

Thanks for all your help!

Jim,

I installed MYSQL before it was included with Zend. So I have my own
Start up program. In the start up program I have a SBMJOB that will
start with an error log and one without. I typically comment out the
SBMJOB with the error log as it can get quite large. I do know that the
mysql.sock file is created during start up. It would be helpful to see
if MYSQL starts up enough to generate an error log. My CL program is
included.

PGM

/* Run with a Log File */

/* SBMJOB CMD(CALL PGM(QP2SHELL) +

PARM('/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe' +

'--user=mysql --log=general.log +

--log-error=mysqlerr.log')) JOB(MYSQLD) +

JOBD(MYSQLLIB/MYSQLJOBD) +

JOBQ(MYSQLLIB/MYSQLJOBQ) */

/* Run without Log File */

SBMJOB CMD(CALL PGM(QP2SHELL) +

PARM('/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld_safe' +

'--user=mysql +

--log-error=mysqlerr.log')) JOB(MYSQLD) +

JOBD(MYSQLLIB/MYSQLJOBD) +

JOBQ(MYSQLLIB/MYSQLJOBQ)

ENDPGM

Dan...

I think I have more clues, I just don't know what they mean. When I try
to start the MySQL daemon from the menu I get the following messages in
my joblog.

- RETURN /* RETURN due to end of CL program */
MySql server could not be started.
