I wonder if they could generate just as much revenue if they'd actually -market the hardware,- instead of having the accountants try to dream up more ways to squeeze money out of the existing customer base...

That said, I'd be curious to learn how IBM pays its sales force-- bonuses for new installations of hardware, or just for signing up more maintenance contracts?
